Subject: RE: [docbook-apps] DocBook in Education
Hi Scott, it is really interesting to see how people use DocBook for educational purposes. To be radical: IMHO Docbook is unsuitable for educational content, but one could work around :-). It's brilliant in modeling software specific information for handbooks and help systems, but bad in describing complex educational settings (like for example a Educational Modeling Language does). In reality, most of the educational contents for adults are text oriented and slide-slide-quiz-style. For those a EML is oversized and DocBook could work fine. The only thing which is missing are some elements which help to describe the quizzes and practises. So from my point of view a future integration of the IMS QTI namespace (and some XSL to make the transformation to DHTML) in DB V5 would be great. My current workaround to get Quizzes into DocBook is to build the interactions with Dreamweaver and the Coursebuilder extension and then xi:include the HTML into DocBook. I would be very interested in your experiences, from that perspective, and also in how we might incorporate any of these needs into DocBook v5.0+ as I am on the DocBook TC.
