Can you clarify what you mean when you say "I don't get error messages"? 
Each time the stylesheet outputs one of those red font elements, it also 
outputs an error message.  The error messages are going somewhere.  I 
suggest you look in the Cocoon do to see where the error messages go, or 
perhaps another Cocoon user can enlighten us.

Are you processing DocBook 5 documents (which are in the DocBook 
namespace)?  If so, does it work with DocBook 4 documents (no namespace)?
