Dear Ray,

One option you have not considered is using HTML Tidy to transform  
the HTML into XHTML, and then further transform into DocBook.

As far as the roundtripping XSL stylesheets are concerned, I am  
currently working on OpenOffice support and am planning on adding  
transformation to DocBook 5 as an option.  However, work on the  
DocBook -> WP has just been completed and I haven't started on the  
reverse yet.
