We'll need a little more information.

What tool are you using to create your DocBook XML content?  Where do
you see the menu item "show as DocBook XML"?

Are you trying to convert the DocBook XML to PDF using the techniques
explained in the DocBook XSL book (http://www.sagehill.net/docbookxsl/)
or are you trying to use a function in your authoring software to do
this?
