Subscript moves whole line down a small amount

I am using FOP 0.93 and the 1.72.0 stylesheets to make a PDF file. I have noticed that the <subscript> feature places the letters correctly, but allows the spacing between the lines to increase. See attached image for example.

 

Is there a way to keep the lines uniform?
