Subject: Re: Bibliography GUI

Title: Scott Hudson
Hi Gary,

this is pretty interesting, but don't think it addresses the issue of citing specific legal references (either to US code, European Court of Justice (ECJ), European Court of Human Rights, House of Lords, Supreme Court, etc.).

As John Hanratty pointed out on the list, there could be quite a lot of metadata required around a legal citation that might be onerous for a human to mark up. That said, I don't think we should avoid the possibility of providing structures to hold this information.  John also pointed out that:

"The act or case name is not usually considered part of the citation. In addition to publishers' proprietary citation systems there is the "official cite" or "neutral cite" included by the state in its published" report of the case/piece of legislation, etc." There is also no equivalent of CrossRef to link legal documents, but that doesn't mean we can't enable such a method!

Best regards,

--Scott

There is a bibliography GUI that exports to docbook.xml. It is JabRef. I am attaching a BibTex bibliography that I converted to xml. Let me know what  you think.

Best,

Gary
