Subject: Re: [docbook-tc] Re: Table accessibility, summary and HTML5

Thanks, Jirka. I don't think we were assuming any of these would be used directly, especially since HTML 5 has removed @summary, which is valid for earlier versions. The guidleline for HTML table summary in HTML5 is to wrap it in caption/details/summary (http://www.w3.org/html/wg/drafts/html/master/tabular-data.html#table-descriptions-techniques).

Thanks and best regards,

I agree with your assessment. We also have the alt element that should be used for a table summary (http://www.docbook.org/tdg51/en/html/alt.html).

Yes, you are right, <alt> would be much straightforward. The only
problem is that <alt> is not allowed in HTML tables directly, it has to
be surrounded by <caption> -- it will be then ambiguous whether alt
provides summary for whole table or for caption only.

The other items in the Table Accessibility are still needed (scope, rowheader, headers).

Uhm, yes I though that I should look on summary issue only. I will put
some more cycles and thought these as well.
