So I post-process the html files, replacing the entity references with the Unicode numbers Using sed: sed -e 's/ldquo/#8220/g' $f | sed -e 's/rdquo/#8221/g' > $tmpfile.$f mv $tmpfile.$f $f $f is one html output file from jade. [ OK, so I should have added & and ; in the substituion to be certain not to replace non-entities. ] I think both Netscape and Exporer supports this, although my netscape shows both rigth and left quotes as ". I can't say for certain what IE does.
