DOCBOOK: Announce: DocBook V4.0 released by DocBook Technical Committee

Hello world,

This afternoon (18 May 2000), the DocBook Technical Committee
officially released DocBook V4.0 and DocBook XML V4.0.

Release by the TC is the first step towards making DocBook V4.0
an official OASIS Standard. (In order to complete the process,
it must be approved by the OASIS board. Previous releases of
DocBook did not pass through this additional step because the
OASIS process was not sufficiently clearly defined.)

As chair of the DocBook TC, I have formally requested action
from the board on this issue.

P.S. There is no possibility of further change in DocBook V4.0.
This is the final release. In the (believed to be exceptionally
unlikely) event that the board raises objections, those
objections will be resolved by releasing V4.1.
