When you ask a question here like this, do you want followups to go

I have done exactly what you mention: <year>1999-2001</year>
I suppose something like:
<yearrange>
<year>1999</year>
<year>2001</year>
</yearrange>
might be more elegant from an XML point of view, but I personally
have not had an issue with doing it the way mentioned above.
