In "out of the box" Red Hat Linux 7.2, there are a few things missing
in the support for DocBook XML with XSL. The current Red Hat Rawhide
packages are in pretty good shape for XML though (modulo the
still-outstanding filesystem hierarchy standard issues).

If you want to play around with DocBook XML to see if it is
appropriate for your environment, you can take a look at
<http://cyberelk.net/tim/docbook/selfdocbookx/>, which was edited and
created using the current rawhide packages.

I also wrote a package called xmlto (http://cyberelk.net/tim/xmlto/)
which is a wrapper around the various tools required to convert XML to
different formats using XSL. You might (or might not) find that
useful. (Probably not though if you are going to be using DSSSL.)

For DocBook XML with DSSSL instead of XSL for the stylesheet language,
you'll probably find that you need fewer packages from rawhide to get
going.

This question is probably more suited to the docbook-apps list though.

I haven't been using that myself.
