I don't recall any discussion where we decided to explicitly exclude them.
If you'd like them to be added, file an RFE at the sf.net/projects/docbook
tracker.

Actually, if you use the MathML module, you'll probably get those entities.

The short answer is, if you use the MathML module, you can use <mml:...>
in <equation> and <informalequation>.
