The stylesheets for 5.0 are in a somewhat transitional state. The
current XSLT 1.0 stylesheets support 5.0 by backtransforming to 4.x
first. I'm working on XSLT 2.0 stylesheets which will directly support
5.0 but progress is slow and they're too immature for real use yet.

The answer to your question is that those two *should* be equivalent
for any given document. Whether they are actually processed
equivalently today is an open question.
