Cross-linking to a range

Hi,

I know this might seem silly (and practically undoable), but is there
some way to make crosslinks to a range? For example, "See chapters
1-3"? (Creating two separate ones for '1' and '3' of course leaves out
'2')

Someone has suggested <xref linkend="chapter_2" remap="2-8"/>, but it
feels like shooting myself in the foot with remapping like this and
proably not supported by anyone. Any suggestions, apart from dropping
it which I already know about? :)
