I recenty wrote a new piece using docbook 5. It took me about 10 minutes extra to get used to using xml:id instead of id, links are different <ulink url="http://docbook.org">DocBook site</ulink> instead of ulink. info is common instead of book | article | section info. I don't know if there's a stylesheet to transform from 4 to 5, but I doubt it would take long to do a manual update? For me it was a no pain move.
