Subject: DocBook Technical Committee Meeting Minutes: 25 April 2007

DocBook Technical Committee Meeting Minutes: 25 April 2007
=============================================================

The DocBook Technical Committee met on Wednesday, 25 April 2007 at
05:00p EDT (02:00p PDT, 21:00GMT, 22:00BST, 23:00CEST, 06:00JST+,
02:30a India+) for 50 minutes.

Agenda

1. Roll call

Present: Steve Cogorno, Paul Grosso, Dick Hamilton, Scott Hudson,
Jirka Kosek, Bob Stayton, Norman Walsh

Absent: Gary Cornelius, Patricia Gee, Nancy Harrison, Gershon Joseph

2. Accepted the minutes[1] of the previous meeting.

3. Next meeting: 16 May 2007? No. This conflicts with
the XTech 2007 conference in Paris. Next meeting moved
to 23 May 2007.

4. Review of the agenda.

Add 6a: name of acknowledgement element
Add 6b: status report on Publishing Subcommittee
Add 6c: add section element to sidebar

5. Review of open action items

  a. Norm to add acknowledgements element to 5.0.
     COMPLETED.

  b. Norm to add label attribute to table in 5.0.
     COMPLETED.

  c. Norm to fix termdef in glossterm in 5.0 to require one firstterm.
     COMPLETED.

  d. Norm to add pgwide attribute to all formal elements in 5.0.
     COMPLETED.

  e. Norm to add info element to HTML table in 5.0.
     COMPLETED.

  f. Bob to request more info from submittor for #1666938.
     COMPLETED.

  g. Bob to write up a description of xlink:role attribute
     for olinks.
     CONTINUED.

  h. Norm to discuss header comment in dbpoolx.mod (SGML)
     with the submittor (#1679712).
     COMPLETED.

  i. Norm to submit Internet Draft RFC for DocBook MIME type.
     CONTINUED.

  j. Norm to follow up with OASIS on procedure for
     doing a TC subcommittee.
     COMPLETED.

6. DocBook 5.0 feature freeze.
The 5.0 release will no longer accept any new feature requests
beyond those in the current queue. Only bug fixes.

6a. There are two spellings: acknowledgements and acknowledgments
(no e after the g). Both are accepted spellings. Since the
schema already has the first, and there is no compelling
reason to adopt the second, no change will be made.

6b. Status of Publishing Subcommittee.
Met once, will continue to meet the first Wed of each month.
There is a home page [2] and a Wiki page [3].
Starting work on subsetting DocBook, based on version 5.0.

ACTION: Norm to add link from main DocBook page to
the subcommittee page.

6c. Add section to sidebar. Scott has a client with
content that needs section content in a flow outside of
the main flow. Sidebar can contain such flows, but sidebar
does not permit section. Some discussion of bridgehead
(not hierarchical) and sidebarsection (like refsection).
Will be discussed in the Publishing Subcommittee.
No strong concensus, so deferred until after 5.0.

7. Review of Requests for Enhancement

To browse a specific RFE, enter the URL (on one line):

      http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&;;
      group_id=21935&atid=384107&aid=XXXX

These RFEs postponed until after 5.0 release
1097183 Allow Task as a sibling of sections
1679665 Add better support for modular documentation

RFEs to be considered (as of 22 April):
1666938 Add a description element to subject

The committee felt that a subjectset was not the proper
place to define subject terms. The terms should be from
a standard taxonomy (otherwise use keywords). They can
be defined and described in a variablelist, glosslist, or
through annotations elsewhere if they need to be included.
Not rejected, but more discussion needed.

1679712 Fix header comment in dbpoolx.mod (SGML)

Already fixed.

1686919 NVDL script in DocBook 5

Request is to add rules in NVDL grammar for validating
DocBook 5. This would be included with the DocBook
5 distribution. ACCEPTED.

      1700154 Add sortas to glossterm

ACCEPTED.

1704374 Add support to sparse punctuation in db:address element

Request needs further clarification. Will wait for a
response to Norm's comments.

1705596 programming inlines for code element

Proposal was to add the db.programming.inlines elements
to the code element. ACCEPTED.

ACTION: Norm to produce a new 5.0 release candidate.

Adjourned at 5:50 EDT.
