Dear Carol,

Following up on our various exchanges I am proposing that WHO would speak at your meeting on the challenges of implementing the International Health Regulations at country level, and globally for WHO in providing the technical assistance, guidance, monitoring and evaluation system to all member states. As these Regulations enter into force in June 2007 requiring all countries to report on diseases of epidemic potential, this presentation will provide a perspective on how standards must be improved to face these challenges.
