James explained the OASIS process, particularly with regard to timing. In
summary, the committee must submit a final specification, along with a
statement of three successful implementation, at least 30 days prior to the
start of the calendar quarter. In other words, if the committee completes
the DSML specification by the end of November and three implementations
exists, then it can be put up for voting as an OASIS standard in the first
quarter of next year.
Issue 1: encoding of controls: string/XML/BER
1A. using "any" (as opposed to "string") allows for XML control values
BER encoded
ACTION: Christine to draft verbage around 1A
1B. improved controls - leave open
ACTION: if someone has a proposal they can submit
ACTION: Winston to look into current work on ASN.1 -> XML mapping
Issue 2: numeric oid or ldap equivalent of nametoken
It was proposed that we stick to a straight transformation fo 2251 ASN.1 for
now and once we've made more progress on other issues and the spec itself,
if we have time can come back;
RESOLUTION: tabled
Issue 3: definition of DsmlValue
"type" in XML Schema Instance namespace to be used.
ACTION: Christine to prepare usage cases
AGREED in principle (awaiting usage cases)
Issue 4: fixed definition of substring filter
AGREED
Issue 5: Remove of objectclass as special case
AGREED
Issue 6
AGREED to rework definition of batch response so as to include
SearchReponse, and exclude SearchResultDone, SearchResultReference,
SearchResultEntry

Issue 7: Errors
A. separate error response
local errors that are returned in an error response versus
individual request reponse
AGREED to go with draft of 9/19 (majority vote dissent: MSFT)
B. having a proper enumerated list
ACTION Christine to add John's list to spec
Issue 8: NumericOID or anyURI for types
AGREED to put back to just NumericOID
Issue 9: name versus desc
Internal consistency principal goal
AGREED to use 'name'.
Issue 11: SOAP fault
AGREED to only send SOAP fault if failure at SOAP layer
Issue 12: Namespace organization
AGREED that this is important but out of scope
issue 13: one xsd or two
ACTION: Christine and Jeff to produce position paragraphs
