Subject: bpmn 2/13/2006: BPMN FTF Comment (Mapping Abstract WSDL to Activities)

As a second followup to the BPMN-ebBP discussions 7 and 9 February 2006,
see attached the updated .vsd and BPMN diagrams in .pdf format. They
represent the first reorganization to:

   1. Utilize the joint activity.
   2. Associate the operation activities to business transaction activities.
   3. Show the use of business signals and business signal exceptions
      (such as Negative Receipt Acknowledgement).
   4. Start to integrate more details (albeit slowly) to accommodate
      shared business collaboration.

Initial thoughts of potential gaps or open questions for BPMN that may
be relevant for shared collaboration:

   1. Visibility of the BT pattern and its constraints and guidelines
   2. Business QoS aspects (guidance that may translate to technical
      mechanisms in the messaging infrastructure)
   3. More detailed modeling of the business document (this may be part
of properties). This may be too granular for BPMN however.
   4. Need for end timers
          * Timers are not just for exceptions but may be for receipt of
a business signal (Receipt or Acceptance Ack), and for the
            overall collaboration, activity, etc.
   5. Need to be able to model simply multiple internal processes to
support different operations, or the same operation using
      different mechanisms.
   6. How to effectively show how a business partner may assume many
      roles in a pool.
          * For example, a Supplier (exposed in Business Collaboration)
may assume the roles of Buyer, Distributor or Seller. These
roles may be specific to the activities within a joint
activity or be associated with the activities defined
elsewhere but visible in a Complex Business Transaction
            Activity.

A minor update on the BPMN diagrams is attached, that includes one
diagram visualizing the start-intermediate-end events. The diagrams,
except for this minor update, can be found publicly available on the
ebxmlbp web site at:

Have a good meeting and thank you for your consideration.
