Subject: RE: [ebxml-cppa] Immediate updates to specification

Also please recall that we have laid down some guidelines already about versioning
and change control. See section 5.3 in the specification for a reminder on what
we have agreed to previously. This can be a topic at the next teleconference
also. We are now suffixing the supporting example and schema files with 2_0a,
since there was a deletion of an attribute from the schema.

Dear Marty  and others ,

I agree with you - and some would argue that 2.1 actually sounds better than 2.0 - might imply that more of the bugs have been shaken out!!.  My suggestion is that we go through 2.0x as we make changes through the review period and end up at 2.1 as final OASIS Standard version number.

Subject: [ebxml-cppa] Immediate updates to specification

We have a publicly accessible copy of the CPPA specification labeled version 2.0. If we make any changes now or to respond to comments from the OASIS public review and if the version finally approved by OASIS is also called version 2, there are is the danger that two implementations of version 2 will be based on different versions of version 2. I don't believe that people will distinguish them by approval dates or notice that one says "approved" and the other doesn't. Since some of the changes are substantive (however small), the mismatch has the potential of causing problems.

If we are going to make any changes at all now or at the end of OASIS public review, it is essential that the finally-approved specification have a version number greater than 2.

Regards,
Marty
