[ebxml-iic] Interop becomes hot

Interoperability becomes a hot issue...

We have to hurry so that IIC rides this wave: there is demand for interoperability testing,

but there is also a risk that we may see divergent Test Suites which may

defeat the purpose.

Some initiatives are taking shape in Japan, where ebXML gains momentum,

see below a letter from Fujitsu Japan, also member of ECOM which

is the main consortium on eBusiness overthere.

 

To our interop team: we need to study the ECOM tests in same way we do for DGI,

and see what kind of interoperability "profiles" they expect.

IIC has the opportunity to unify and standardize these interoperability initiatives and become the reference.

 

Nevertheless, in the short term our objective is to quickly complete the most basic interop profiles of our suite.

Mr. Jacques Durand,

 

I'd like to inform you about an ebXML interoperability test project in

Japan.

 

The ECOM (Electronic Commerce Promotion Council of Japan) has just

started ebXML Interoperability Test Adhoc Group which is composed of IT

vendors, system integrators and service providers. I undertook the

leadership of the group. The first meeting was held on 22 July and 14

companies met in the meeting. The group's goals are:

 

- Verify interoperability among different vendor's ebXML products in

Japanese market to promote ebXML. In the first step, test target is

ebXML Message Service.

 

- Create a guideline for interoperability among different vendor's

ebXML products.

 

- Contribute the result of the activities to OASIS ebXML IIC TC.

 

The group is creating interoperability test specifications. Actual test

will be started at about the end of September. I will send you this

group's status information again.
