Subject: [education] Welcome to the OASIS Education XML - Mailing List
OASIS has issued the Call for Participation to the membership and our first meeting (by phone) is scheduled for 25 March 2003. John and I want to welcome you to the TC mailing list and eagerly look forward to your participation in the work of the committee. Over the course of the next few weeks we will be sharing on this list a more refined scope of activity and a draft development roadmap for the group. We hope you will participate in, and add value to this conversation. By doing so, our first meeting will be much more productive. The official OASIS Technical Committee website is at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/education/ . To provide additional input and a place to house a registry for taxonomies, ontologies, thesauri, schema, and controlled vocabularies, and to provide a requirements portal for the PK12 community of practice we have also set up www.edxml.org. Establishing this committee is about giving voice to PK12 requirements and bringing the best experience and thinking from the XML community to bear on those requirements. There is no intention to duplicate activities underway in other standards communities like IEEE, CEN/ISSS, and IMS. In fact, we will maintain liaisons with these groups, and the members of the Education XML Technical Committee will bring the work of these respected groups into PK12 with best practices, implementation specifications, conforming extensions, and reference implementations. Do not hesitate to bring your thoughts, concerns, ideas and questions to this list. Tom Vreeland, Co-chair tsv@openves.org John Cona, Co-chair johncona@optonline.net
