Subject: [Fwd: full-disk encryption standards released]
http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9126869&intsrc=hm_ts_head Quote from the news article: "When [the encryption machinery] reads data from the drive, it displays it to the user in the clear. It's completely transparent to the user". The article neglects to mention, its also transparent to an attacker if he/she has compromised a software layer between the application and the FDE drive. Which explains why the CEO of Heartland Payment Systems is calling for end-to-end encryption now that they have discovered "encryption religion": http://www.snl.com/irweblinkx/file.aspx?IID=4094417&FID=7249269 Arshad Noor StrongAuth, Inc. P.S. Hat tip to Davi for the Heartland link.
