Subject: Minutes from 10/7/03 call

NOTIFICATION METHODS AND MESSAGES SUBCOMMITTEE
Conference Call - 7 October 2003 - 12:30 PM EDT

Attending: Eliot Christian, David Hall, Rex Brooks, Gary Ham, Walid
Ramadan, Tom Merkle, Carl Reed, Art Botterell

Art announced that the SC chair was coming open and asked how the
group would like to have the post filled. Eliot reported that the
recent change in the GIS committee went smoothly because a volunteer
was available. David suggested that the SC list be polled for
volunteers. The group concurred.

The rest of the call was spent in addressing a few of the pending
issues regarding the ICS-201 object model and data dictionary:

* The definition of the Resource ID may be a bit unclear as to the
role of ICS identifiers and free-text labels. David will attempt a
redraft.

* The multiplicity notations for the "resources" block were
discussed. The "asset" object (see also below) is conditionally
optional; that is to say, if a "resources" block is present, it must
contain at least one "resource" element.

* The interaction of the name "resource" with it's dissimilar
counterpart in CAP was discussed. The group agreed that this could
be resolved by namespacing and/or context, so there was no
requirement that the same name not be used in different senses in
different documents. Therefore it was agreed that the "asset"
element would be renamed "resource", with the "resources" element
being a container for one or more "resource" elements.

There was a quick discussion of how to approach open CAP issues, but
that was tabled pending selection of a new SC chair.

The SC call ended at 1:02 Eastern when the full TC convened.
