Subject: Global JXDM Schema Subset Tool - Organizations Utilizing the
Global JXDM

Dear Global JXDM Developer's Workshop Participant:

The following information is provided for individuals who have attended
a Global Justice XML Data Model (Global JXDM) Developer's Workshop.

Global JXDM Schema Subset Generation Tool

The Global JXDM Schema Subset Generation Tool
(http://justicexml.gtri.gatech.edu/subset_tool.html) is now available
for public release. This valuable tool provides developers with the
ability to create Global JXDM schema subsets based on the previously
published "Rules for Schema Subsets"
(http://justicexml.gtri.gatech.edu/rules_for_schema_subsets.html). In
addition to giving developers the ability to create schema subsets, the
SSGT incorporates and replaces the Global JXDM Viewer, which was
designed to assist developers in searching the data model itself.

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is tracking usage statistics
related to the Global JXDM Schema Subset Generation Tool. The following
highlight those statistics from the June 1, 2004 - July 23, 2004 beta
testing period:

Total Unique Pages Viewed: 12,255
Total Hits (Total Pages Requested/Viewed): 68,378 Total Bandwidth (Total
bytes transmitted by the server): 533 Total Schema Subsets Generated:
334 Total Bugs Reported: 4

Organizations Utilizing the Global JXDM

A page was created on the Global Justice XML Data Model Web site titled
"Organizations Utilizing the Global Justice XML Data Model"
(http://www.it.ojp.gov/topic.jsp?topic_id=107), which gives users the
ability to share their Global JXDM projects with others and to see how
others are using the Global JXDM. Individuals who submit new projects to
this page are now able to submit their projects and make future updates
on-line. Please note that all new projects and updates submitted will be
subject to a review and approval process before they actually post to
the Web site. A document with directions for this process is available
at http://www.it.ojp.gov/documents/OUTGJXDMdirections.pdf.

Individuals who register to provide projects to the "Organizations
Utilizing the Global JXDM" page are automatically registered for other
Web site "Member" services for the Office of Justice Programs
Information Technology Initiatives, Global Justice Information Sharing
Initiative, Justice Standards Clearinghouse, and Global Justice XML Data
Model Web sites. Registered users can access these features from any
page of any of the Web sites that has a "Member" button in the Web site
banner. Accessing the "Member" button will provide access to a
"Returning User Login" page. After the user enters their "User Name,"
"Password," and accesses the "Log In" button on this page, they will be
taken to the "Index" page for the Web site they are currently viewing.
On that "Index" page, they will notice that the "Member" button has been
replaced by a Web site banner menu. Accessing the "My Profile" button in
this Web site banner menu will provide a "Manage User Profile" page that
provides a listing of "Member" services. Registered users can proceed by
following the directions for each option provided. These options include
"Update Personal Information," "Change Password," "Select/Update IT
Initiatives, Global, and Global JXDM E-mail Notification Preferences,"
"Select/Update JSC E-mail Notification Preferences," and "Return to
Browsing the Site."

Individuals who register to provide projects to the "Organizations
Utilizing the Global JXDM" page are automatically registered and
encouraged to provide entries for the Justice Standards Clearinghouse
(JSC) and to provide comments to current JSC entries. For more
information please visit the JSC page at
http://it.ojp.gov/topic.jsp?topic_id=133. If you are already a JSC user,
you can use your JSC "User Name" and "Password" to provide project
information to the "Organizations Utilizing the Global JXDM" page by
following the directions provided under "Current Justice Standards
Clearinghouse Users" in the document available at
http://www.it.ojp.gov/documents/OUTGJXDMdirections.pdf.
