Subject: RE: New book on sensors, architectures, standards, and interoperability - from SANY project in Europe.

Dear TC -

For those interested in sensors, sensor systems, sensor based applications, and sensor architectures, there is a new book (free in digital form) about to be announced. The book is the final report from a major multi-year project in Europe and is titled: "SANY: an open service architecture for sensor networks". From the introduction:

"And should this introduction sound familiar, than you might very well be correct: this book summarises the approaches and results of the SANY project by following the example of the ORCHESTRA project, whose work on an open architecture for risk management has provided the foundation for SANY. The acronym SANY stands for Sensors Anywhere and embraces trends and approaches identified by ORCHESTRA, many of which have by now developed into reality. As a major Integrated Project in the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Commission, SANY extends the work of ORCHESTRA into the domain of sensor networks and standards based sensor web enablement."

ORCHESTRA is another major European initiative that defined a reference architecture for improved interoperability among risk management authorities in Europe, which will enable the handling of more effective disaster risk reduction strategies and emergency management operations. The ORCHESTRA architecture is being implemented.

Anyway, the book is excellent and even has an extensive section for Dave E on authentication, access control etc for sensor systems :-)

I will provide the link when the book is publicly available.

Regards
