Subject: 9-1-1 and Common Alerting Protocol or EDXL

See below – I didn’t know that 911/PSAP legacy systems were converting their data into CAP format to share with others…  The pdf link from “Jennifer Dillon” talks details.

9-1-1 and Common Alerting Protocol or EDXL

Are you aware of 9-1-1 PSAPs (Public Service Answering Points) that make their calls for service available in a CAP Feed?

I'm aware of Houston providing a very effective, 5 minute delayed feed to the public, and I know most Computer Aided Dispatch systems from companies like Intergraph, Northrop Grumman, Spillman, Tri-Tech can easily translate the entered informtion into CAP. This happens without any additional human work, and rules can typically be set to protect the distribution of personally identifiable information.

Any feedback appreciated.

Hi Pete,
Take a look at http://www.iemss.org/iemss2008/uploads/Main/S07-09-Cristaldi_et_al-IEMSS2008.pdf
-- an effective approach used in Europe. Hope it helps.

Jennifer:
This is an excellent article around the EU, thanks. We're translating Swedish 112 alerts into CAP for distribution to about 30 agencies today, sounds like there could be some good synergy across the EU.....
