Subject: RE: [emergency] For those interested in standarized EM symbology

You can find a link to the Canadian symbology document at http://capan.ca/index.php/en/geopresent/, as well as a link to the CAPAN CAP Event Location Layer and CAP “experimental” symbology service (see www.capan.ca/geopresent/icon). The event list is at www.capan.ca/CAP-CP. Combine them, and we’ve been able to move Canadian stakeholders to use common terms and symbology with CAP alerts.

GeoConnections Releases Canada's Emergency Mapping Symbology (EMS) version 1.0
Over 200 emergency mapping symbols are now available for use in geospatial products that will help provide common understanding of emergency situations and improve information-sharing. The two-tiered symbology was designed to cover a wide range of emergency incident, infrastructure and operations subjects. The symbols are tailored to Canadian requirements for situational awareness, first response, natural hazards, public alerting and critical infrastructure. The Emergency Mapping Symbology is free to use, share, modify and extend without restriction.
