Subject: Draft answer for cardinality question in clarification request

From https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/emix-comment/201208/msg00000.html this is a partial proposed answer to item 4 and the fourth action in the draft minutes at https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=47493&wg_abbrev=emix .

DRAFT

Thank you for your comment. This is a partial response to item 4.

The XML Schema specification has default minOccurs and maxOccurs equal to 1. The XML schema is normative; the UML model is generated by a tool (Sparx Enterprise Architect) from the schemas. The multiplicity is explicit in the underlying UML model.  Enterprise Architect does not always show the multiplicity when it is the default 1..1.

The UML models in the OASIS document archive all show 1..1 where that is desired; Enterprise Architect 9 does not generally display multiplicities that are 1..1.

Please reference the normative XML artifacts for clarification of multiplicity/cardinality; OASIS defines the machine-readable XML artifacts as controlling where there is any conflict between the specification and the normative XML artifacts.

We have noted that a future revision of the specification should consider stating multiplicity in the introductory material.

END DRAFT

Thanks!
