Subject: DR Resource and DR Asset Definitions
Below is a summary of some existing definitions. UCA: A DR Resource is used during the enrollment process. A
DR Resource as a logical entity is a group of Assets that represents a
dispatchable entity. Other work from [This following is from an earlier draft of the other work
from Response Method: A measurable action taken in response to an
instruction to change consumption. Response Method Aggregation: A logical entity that has a
reportable interval level consumption, e.g. a site may also be a physical
entity that may have its own meter, a neighborhood of homes that has a net
meter, or an estimate of consumption of an aggregation of retail customers. Resource: A market-dependent group of Response Method
Aggregations that represents a dispatchable entity.] UCA: DR Asset is defined as an end device that is capable of
shedding load in response to Demand Response Events, Electricity Price Signals
or other system events (e.g. under frequency detection). [This definition should include some reference to the fact
that it is defined as something separate from a Resource for purposes of Direct
Load Control. The interactions defined for UCA also specify that an Asset can
consume a Price Signal.] CIM: EndDeviceAsset: AssetContainer that performs one or
more end device functions. One type of EndDeviceAsset is a MeterAsset which can
perform metering, load management, connect/disconnect, accounting functions,
etc. Some EndDeviceAssets, such as ones monitoring and controlling air
conditioner, refrigerator, pool pumps may be connected to a MeterAsset. All
EndDeviceAssets may have communication capability defined by the associated
ComFunction(s). An EndDeviceAsset may be owned by a consumer, a service
provider, utility or otherwise. There may be a related end device function that identifies a
sensor or control point within a metering application or communications systems
(e.g., water, gas, electricity). Some devices may use an optical port that conforms to the
ANSI C12.18 standard for communications. CIM: EndDeviceControl (Logical End Device): Instructs an
EndDeviceAsset (or EndDeviceGroup) to perform a specified action. Bruce
