Recommending a particular methodology - Part 2

Marc Haines added the following comment to the FWSI-IMSC-Document-02.doc document in the FWSI Implementation Methodology SC Group.

We also need to be clear about the factors that really determine the choice of implementation methodology. While the characteristics of the technology - here Web Services - play a role, other factors such as timeframe, organizational context, and type of implementation (see infrastructure versus application issue) need to be taken into account.  
RUP can then be used to provide an example of how these Web Service specific activities can be integrated into an existing methodology. Down the road it may also be worthwhile to demonstrate the feasibility with another methodology (i.e., extreme programming).
To some extend the document and the comments in previous meetings reflect the position described above. Perhaps it just needs to be stated more explicitly that RUP is not the only methodology that can benefit from the recommendations made in this document.
