Title: Brass Tacks Revisited
With
regards to applications to combat terrorism, this requires an application level
use
case. For example, a review of the national Community Oriented
Policing (COPS)
programs will reveal requirements for understanding
multicultural data sources. This
may
also extend to Neighborhood Watch programs as part of their training and as
information
made
available online to the NW patrols, monitors, block captains, etc.
These are
not
glamorous or particularly exciting, but an essential part of homeland
defense.
As
regards "combat" applications, this is a much tougher area to work in.
A
review
of extant and new RFPs and RFIs as well as other requests for service
from
the security and military services will be appropriate. There are other
services possible to other information collection
points, but the COPS example
is
illuminating.
Note
that neither of these areas will require any particular new theories or
innovative developments. This is grunt data
collection with some analysis.
It is
important to note that data collected is not always evaluated at the
point
of collection so developing discriminators for how data is turned
into
useful statistics and where and how such statistics affect policy
are
both important issues for the application developers. The important
contributions from HumanML will be in the
categorizations enabled
and
the raw types provided under these.
len
Joseph, Ranjeeth, Kurt and I have been
thinking about coming up with use-case ideas featuring the utility of HumanML
as an emerging technology with potential to combat terrorism.
