Title: PBS-Doc-kinesic
BTW
and slightly offtopic but related, did anyone else watch the PBS special last
night,
Alan Alda on Intimate Machines? It provided interviews with a lot of
the current
and
former MIT MediaLab experimenters who are working directly in the field that
we are
marking up with HumanML: to wit, making computers understand and
relate
to human social conventions. It was illuminating in that each
experimenter
had to
narrow their experiments to certain aspects of this, in the use of sensors
and
what a large but productive field that is for capturing the mood or intent
of the
human, of the difficulties and successes of modeling communities
based
on their gestures and behaviors (one using wolf packs), and so on.
If
this comes on again, I highly recommend it. This field is still in its
infancy,
but
given the support of folks like Stan Winston (fellow who did the Jurassic
Park
'bots), it will explode. It closed with he and his MIT employee
making
a mock
(maybe not) fuss over who gets credit for the work. Very human.
:-)
