3. Review the OO and RDF model

Participants discussed the status of the ICOM draft model in relation to the two complimentary Beehive and Ecospace models described in http://wiki.oasis-open.org/icom/Categorisation. Eric observed that the UML model (summarized in Figures 1 and 6 of the wiki page) included high-level concepts so far, but after adding the artifacts such as contact, message, discussion, presence, etc., the UML model should become a superset of Ecospace’s SIOC4CWE model, and should contain all the features (in UML classes and attributes) to map to the SIOC4CWE classes and properties (summarized in Tables 1, 2, and 3 of the wiki page). We can also add the representations of the contexts and processes in the UML model, for example, by representing the relationships, tags, and other metadata extensions to enrich the contexts, and by representing the workflow and policy as artifacts, which can then integrate with the runtime aspects of the processes.

Laura asked whether the TC was deferring the RDF model after it agreed on the ICOM draft model. Eric requested Laura and Deirdre to develop the RDF counterpart of the UML model (based on the OO - RDF mapping rules proposed in http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/icom/email/archives/200910/msg00000.html) as part of the process to adopt the ICOM draft model. The isomorphic RDF representation would be useful for the TC members to evaluate the viability of the UML model. Laura raised the need for version control facility if other TC members wished to contribute to the RDF model. Eric suggested to share the Protégé project files through the OASIS repository at http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/icom/documents.php, which supported version control. Laura recommended Drupal Neologism tool http://groups.drupal.org/node/12532 for publishing the RDF model in the wiki pages.

4. Discuss adoption of a draft model for ICOM

Eric is asking the TC members to adopt the ICOM draft model that minimally captures the high-level concepts described so far in http://wiki.oasis-open.org/icom/Categorisation. A new wiki page can be used to distill the ICOM draft model from the various proposals in http://wiki.oasis-open.org/icom/Categorisation. Additional concepts (e.g. more classes of artifacts) can be included in the first draft as necessary to clarify how “pieces fit into the whole.”

Eric would propose for the TC to define the ICOM draft model over the next six weeks as the TC gets ready to hold a ballot after two to three subsequent TC meetings. The schedule provides the opportunity for the TC members to establish the voting membership in time for the ballot. Eric would contact Peter, Patrick, and Philip, who were absent in recent TC meetings, to include them in the voting process.

The meeting was adjourned.
