Subject: HL7 SDK Availability
Sue Dubman, NIH/NCI The SDK can be downloaded from http://ncicb.nci.nih.gov/download/index.jsp The National Cancer Institute's Center for Bioinformatics (NCICB) is pleased to announce the availability of Release 1.0 of HL7 v3 Software Development Kit (SDK), a new open source capability on the NCICB download site. The HL7 SDK is an extension of the HL7's Java Special Interest Group (SIG) code base. It provides a Java based API to HL7 v3 RIM components, such as RIM classes, HL7 Data Type classes and HL7 Meta Data classes. In addition, the SDK contains a utilities package to support v3 xml message building and parsing capability. It also provides additional services of vocabulary validation of HL7 structural attributes by integrating with the NCICB's Enterprise Vocabulary Services (EVS). NCICB is a working member of the HL7 Java SIG and frequently contributes enhancements back to this HL7 open source effort. We have greatly appreciated the help and guidance we have received from the HL7 Java SIG community in making this release of SDK a reality. NCICB is a registered "Early Adopter" of the HL7 v3 specifications and in support of this initiative has leveraged HL7 open source software and built upon it. This release is based on the December 2003 ballot of HL7 (ballot 6) and therefore supports RIM 2.02 and related Data types. Further details about the SDK effort and future plans can be found at http://trials.nci.nih.gov/projects/infrastructureProject/hl7_sdk
