Subject: RE: [legalxml-courtfiling] UBL 2.1 and possible ECF Errata 02

Thanks you Paul for the helpful reply. I was not aware of the 6 month minimum interval between errata.

I did try the link contained within the Normative References section of the ECF v4.01 plus Errata 01 Complete document (i.e. http://docs.oasis-open.org/ubl/prd2-UBL-2.1/UBL-2.1.html)

This link takes you to a specification document shown in the snippet below:

However this document did not provide (or at least I did not find within in it) any link to the zip file for all of UBL 2.1 prd2. So unless I missed this link within the UBL 2.1 prd02 specification document, the  reader still does not know where to find the appropriate zip file (hence “arcane Knowledge” may be required).

I had not tried the Latest Version link in the UBL 2.1 prd2 specification (i.e. http://docs.oasis-open.org/ubl/UBL-2.1.html).

However, this link takes you to the UBL 2.1 os specification (snippet below):

This document does contain a link to a UBL 2.1 zip file, but it is for the UBL 2.1 os zip file and not the UBL 2.1 prd2 zip file (folder shown below)

Did I miss a turn along the way?

Thanks

Gary Graham

Hi all,

It's worth noting that one doesn't really need "arcane knowledge" to find the UBL documents, since there is a hyperlink for the [UBL] references in the Normative References section of ECF v4.01 (both the original OASIS Standard and the recently published Approved Errata), which leads to UBL-2.1 PRD2. That document contains a "Latest version" link which leads to UBL 2.1 OASIS Standard.

But I agree that it would have been better for the TC to have updated the normative reference to point directly to the completed UBL 2.1 OASIS Standard.  That's where every Technical Committee benefits by having members who carefully review the specifications before publication.

In thinking about whether to publish Errata 02, please note that based on the OASIS TC Process, "A TC may not adopt Approved Errata to an OASIS Standard more than once in any six-month period."

Best regards,

Paul Knight

ECF 4.01 Errata 2 ?

ECF v 4.01 os makes UBL 2.1 prd2 normative.

For those you have not yet mastered to OASIS coding scheme, ‘os’ = “OASIS Standard” and’prd2’ = “Public Review Draft 02”.

In other words, to conform to the ECF OASIS standard, you must use UBL that is not an OASIS standard.

No need for alarm, UBL 2.1 is now an OASIS Standard (i.e. os) and the little bit of UBL used by ECF is not revised in the UBL v2.1 os.

But here is the problem; to be conformant to ECF v4.01 plus Errata 01 you must use UBL v2.1 prd2 – so just exactly where do ECF implementers go to get UBL 2.1 prd2?

If you go to the UBL web site in OASIS you can get UBL v2.1 os, but are not provided with any way of finding UBL v2.1 prd2.

For those with arcane knowledge of OASIS, one might try:

http://docs.oasis-open.org/ubl/prd2-UBL-2.1/

This will deliver you to:

Presumably UBL-2.1-PRD2-2011-05-30.zip is the ECF v4.01 os plus Errata 01 compliant version (however this was not the name of the zip file at the time this was available for public review).

In the future the ECF TC may want to consider a policy of only building on approved standards. But for now the TC may want to consider a second Errata (i.e. Errata 02) to ECF 4.01 os plus Errata 01 to make UBL 2.1 os normative instead of UBL 2.1 prd2.
