Dallas, I agree we are a little thin on requirements. We assigned were some action items early on to you and Jim McMillan to provide schedule use cases. The only thing I remember seeing from that was this use case diagram We included placeholders for the new scheduling operations in sections 3.2.15-17 in the draft ECF 5.0 specification but they probably need to be elaborated. We also had a conference call with Mike Douglas this summer where we talked through the requirements but I don’t see any more requirements in his analysis than what’s in the specification itself. Jim McMillan, please add anything I missed. __
Jim,
I am sorry for the delay in my comments. I read through the document and began a comments. Then as I started writing I began to question what requirements we were trying to satisfy. I looked for the requirements but could not find them. Can you tell me where they are? I feel like this document is very generalized and does not identify requirement and how they are solved. For example I would anticipate the simplest requirement
1) distribution of a calendar event. Then you need to consider that there are different types of calendar events a. We have found that an arraignment process is an event that has twenty people in the event and could last two hours and it is not certain at what point in time you or your client or interested associate will be presented before the judge. b. Sometimes the event is a video conference and is broadcast c. Sometimes it is specific to a single case I would anticipate the committee begin with one simple requirement which is the broadcast of an event. The add the requirement to schedule an event. This will be much more complicated. Our experience suggests that scheduling an event does not work well for the filers because they have no authority to commit the event. The filer needs options and priorities whereas the clerks have authority to fill up slots and can commit the event within a few seconds of their action. The Judge has authority to allocate time and commit an event.
I would suggest that for the first release we just start with broadcast of an event, then add a request process for the filer. I think this will simplify what we are trying to accomplish. The current document appears to be trying to create a holistic solutions that I don’t think we are ready for.
