Subject: [legalxml-econtracts] eContracts Date Change,Agenda and Request for Illustrations of Workproduct

Dear Fellow eContracts Technical Committee Members:

This is just a quick note to welcome the subscribers on this list to the newly formed OASIS/LegalXML eContracts Technical Committee. Based upon the lively and rich dialog on the Discussion List leading up to formation of this TC, and the depth of our initial membership, I’m confident that we’re in a good position to make some real progress in this arena.

We had tentatively planned our first meeting for this Thursday at 2:00 pm “New York Time”, but I’m sorry to report that we have found that scheduling around both coasts in the US and for our considerable Australian contingent an insurmountable task for this week. And so, Jason Harrop, Eddie O’Brien and I would like to propose other date/time options for our first phone meeting and to begin an e-mail discussion of our agenda. Please e-mail me back to let me know which, if any, of the following dates at 10am “New York Time” do NOT work for you in October:

3rd, 11th, 14th (note: Columbus day, but works for us), or the 16th - 18th.

We realize the 10am in New York is only 7am on the left coast, but it is 3pm in London and 12 midnight in Melbourne. One other possibility would be to hold the meeting at 5pm “New York Time”, if we are not able to find an acceptable date/time at the 10am slot.

Upon consultation with my the co-vice chairs of this TC, we’d like to propose the following draft agenda for our first call. Please post to the private work list for this TC any changes or additions you would like to see to this agenda. The list address is: legalxml-econtracts@lists.oasis-open.org

* Introductions and Statement of Background/Interests Regarding this TC
* Scope and Deliverables: Discuss in Depth and Reach Consensus on
Goals/Objectives
* Final Requirements: Determine Consensus, Where it Exists, and Process
to Close Discussion
* Set Next Meeting Date/Time

In advance of our first meeting, while we are locking down the agenda, I would also like to encourage members of this list to review the overall Charter for this TC and begin to communicate your ideas for our work. I am partial, at the beginning phase of work like this, to coming to consensus on a small number (say, 3-5) of simple, narrative scenarios that illustrate how the final work product would be used and “fit” into the broader environment. These little vignettes should be broader than a narrow technical “use case”, but still brief, crisp visions of how the work product will make something cheaper, faster and/or better. I’ll be thinking of these illustrations and I encourage members of the TC to post your own ideas to our list as a way to stimulate our discussions and to achieve a consensus on our vision.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all better, and to interacting again with many of you with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working before. Again, I did not expect the scheduling to be as problematic as it turned out and apologize for any inconvenience the reschedule may have caused. From here on out, we’ll be sure to keep our time zones and logistics straight!

All the best,
 - Daniel Greenwood, eContracts TC Chair
