Subject: [gtri-xstf] ICMWG Position Paper on Fed Draft NDR

XSTF

FYI.  For those of you who may not be following the fed-xml-ndr effort …

In view of our own effort to write a Naming and Design Rules (NDR) document, I thought it worthwhile to share some context regarding the Federal XML (NDR) effort.

Attached is a position paper recently presented by Ken Sall (SAIC) to the 20 July meeting of the Fed XML NDR workgroup on behalf of the Intelligence Community (IC).  I've tried to highlight (and comment in a couple of cases) main points in each section.  This may illustrate the difficulty of writing an NDR and, in particular, writing an NDR for Government-wide adoption.  It also provides some idea (from the IC perspective) of the many controversies, without subjecting you to reading well over 300 emails (and growing daily) that have accumulated on the fed-xml-ndr Listserv in a little over 2 months.

Note that many of the IC positions (though not all) are consistent with GJXDM principles.

Mark
