Action items from the two-day program include an agreement for standards orgs to share information about their technical work through a central location, so that overlaps and opportunities for collaboration may be readily identified. OASIS has offered to host this registry of standards work on XML.org. Karl Best of OASIS will be directing the effort to establish common metadata for describing standards work, and interested parties are strongly encouraged to participate in this process. To get involved, contact karl.best@oasis-open.org. A second Interoperability Summit is planned for the week of 24 June 2002. --------------- MEMBER BENEFITS --------------- START AN OASIS TC OASIS is unique among standards organizations in that our technical agenda is driven by our members. Any group of three or more OASIS members can form a technical committee (TC) to create specifications related to the interoperability of structured information systems. If you have an idea for technical work but haven't formed a complete plan or mobilized support from others, we may be able to help. The OASIS TC Process allows members to create an open discussion list in order to gauge community interest and discuss charter and scope of a potential TC. In addition to new work, OASIS TCs can also be formed to take existing work to the next level. Many current OASIS TCs, in fact, are advancing technical work that began outside the Consortium. For example, the OASIS Security Services TC has converged work from the AuthXML and S2ML groups into a single SAML specification; by bringing this work to OASIS, the two groups consolidated their efforts, eliminated overlap and increased participation and acceptance for the final work result. If you have an idea for technical work or if you're involved in developing an XML specification -- either within your company or through a vendor group or industry dot-org -- please contact Karl Best (karl.best@oasis-open.org) for more details on how further development within OASIS might be beneficial. ----------------- NEW OASIS MEMBERS ----------------- New OASIS Contributors include Comsoft, France Telecom and Griffin Consulting. We welcome these new member companies to OASIS and look forward to their contributions. ---------------------- OASIS MEMBER DISCOUNTS ---------------------- OASIS members are eligible for discounts on online educational tutorials, conference registration fees and/or exhibiting fees at many industry events including: Crane Softwrights audio lecture series http://www.oasis-open.org/members/meetings/crane.shtml ------------------- OASIS ON THE AGENDA ------------------- 7-9 Jan, Federal Convention on Emerging Technologies-A Forum on Homeland Security, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA OASIS members will be presenting in Track 4, "Web-Based Architecture and Infrastructure" 10 Jan, Vordel Web Services Security online seminar series will examine Web services and the issues surrounding successful deployment.
