CONSORTIUM ANNOUNCEMENTS
------------------------

OASIS announced today that it has joined the four International
Standards Organizations in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on
Electronic Business. Founding members of the MoU include the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the United Nations Economic
Commission for Europe (UN/ECE). As the newest invited member of the MoU,
OASIS adds its resources to the efforts of these international
standards-setting bodies to coordinate the development of global
standards for electronic business.

On 28 Jan, the Consortium publicly announced the formation of the OASIS
Web Services Standard for Remote Portals (WSRP) TC. WSRP is an XML and
Web services specification that will allow the plug-n-play of visual,
user-facing Web services with portals or other intermediary Web
applications.

Last week, the OASIS ebXML Registry Technical Committee publicly
announced its approval of the ebXML Registry Services Specification v2.0
and the ebXML Registry Information Model v2.0. The OASIS membership
at-large will vote on the ebXML Registry specifications in April 2002.

The XML-DEV mailing list celebrates its fifth year as an open forum for
code development, creation of protocols and specifications, and other
material contributions. While the XML spec was in draft, XML-DEV served
as the key resource for coordinating software development. Over the
years, it has fostered many significant projects, including the SAX API
for XML parsers. Since February 2000, OASIS has hosted the unmediated
XML-DEV through XML.org. OASIS applauds all who contribute to XML-DEV,
particularly its creators, Dr. Henry Rzepa and Prof. Peter Murray-Rust.

-------
SIDEBAR
-------

Interesting facts about the wide reach of the arms of OASIS. Did you
know that of the 25 current OASIS TCs, seven are chaired by individuals
based in Europe, one in Asia and one in Australia? Of the 17 North
American-based TC chairs, two live in Canada and two others live in the
US, but hold citizenship elsewhere. What's more, half of the OASIS Board
of Directors are European and half are North American by birth. OASIS
works hard to increase representation from all parts of the globe, and
these numbers attest to the growing cross cultural participation in our
work. It does make it more challenging, however, to schedule a
conference call.

---------------
