CONSORTIUM ANNOUNCEMENTS
------------------------

On 2 April, OASIS announced that its members have formed the OASIS
Rights Language Technical Committee to advance a common XML rights
language standard for the digital rights management (DRM) marketplace.
Their work will provide a universal method for specifying and managing
rights associated with all kinds of resources including digital content
and web services. The OASIS specification will support a wide variety of
business models, expressing both simple and complex rights and promoting
interoperability between systems regardless of platform, media type or
format. To join this TC, email hari.reddy@contentguard.com.

On 28 March 2002 we announced that LegalXML, joined the OASIS
interoperability consortium, in a move that aligns the development
of specifications for legal data exchange with the global standards
community at-large. By migrating its work to OASIS, LegalXML secures its
representation within the consortium known for setting adoptable
worldwide standards for electronic business, Web services and security.
The alliance brings new resources and international awareness to
LegalXML's work on specifications for electronic court filing, court
documents, legal citations, transcripts, criminal justice intelligence
systems, and others.

The program for ebXML Day at XML Europe 2002 in Barcelona is now
available. Presenters include representatives from the European
Commission, EAN Spain, STAR, Pan Asian e-Commerce Alliance, and
UN/CEFACT, as well as Sun Microsystems, Microsoft, Oracle, IONA, Cyclone
Commerce, Sterling Commerce, XML Global, the Drummond Group, and others.

The Consortium is forming the OASIS Technical Advisory Board, an elected
group of industry experts who will provide input to the OASIS Board of
Directors on technical topics meriting member consideration. Member
elections will be held 1-30 April.
Voting reps from each company should go to
http://www.oasis-open.org/members/tab/nominations.shtml to review the
nominations and review information for casting your ballot.

---------------
MEMBER BENEFITS
---------------

START AN OASIS TC

OASIS is unique among standards organizations in that our technical
agenda is driven by our members. Any group of three or more OASIS
members can form a technical committee (TC) to create specifications
related to the interoperability of structured information systems.

If you have an idea for technical work but haven't formed a complete
plan or mobilized support from others, we may be able to help. The OASIS
TC Process allows members to create an open discussion list in order to
gauge community interest and discuss charter and scope of a potential
TC.

In addition to new work, OASIS TCs can also be formed to take
existing work to the next level. Many current OASIS TCs, in fact, are
advancing technical work that began outside the Consortium. For example,
the OASIS Security Services TC has converged work from the AuthXML and
S2ML groups into a single SAML specification; by bringing this work to
OASIS, the two groups consolidated their efforts, eliminated overlap and
increased participation and acceptance for the final work result.

If you have an idea for technical work or if you're involved in
developing an XML specification -- either within your company or through
a vendor group or industry dot-org -- please contact Karl Best
(karl.best@oasis-open.org) for more details on how further development
within OASIS might be beneficial.
