OASIS News
30 September 2002

Welcome to OASIS News, a weekly update of announcements, accomplishments
and activities for the XML interoperability consortium.

"Technologies to Facilitate Multi-Lingual Global e-Business" Survey

OASIS has created a Global eBusiness survey in cooperation with LISA,
www.lisa.org, to determine the impact of multi-lingual technologies
(localization) on global e-business. The questions were designed to
investigate the amount of current and future activity and resources
devoted to using or developing localization products. We would like to
express appreciation to the LISA OSCAR and the OASIS XLIFF TCs for their
extensive contributions to the content of this survey, with a special
note of recognition to Yves Savourel and Tony Jewtushenko.

SAML and ebXML CPPA Committee Specifications Call for Votes

October 1 begins the 30 day voting period for the SAML and ebXML CPPA
Committee Specifications to become OASIS standards; each OASIS member
organization will have a single vote on the ballot.
Voting representatives from OASIS sponsors and contributors are
encouraged to vote.

Implementers Talk About Standards

To advance the adoption of e-business standards, OASIS hosts open
community discussion lists on XML, SAML, and ebXML. These lists provide
a great forum for implementers and would-be implementers to exchange
information. Subscribe at

New Standards for Legal Information Exchange Underway at OASIS LegalXML

On 25 Sept, the consortium announced the formation of six new OASIS
LegalXML technical committees to create standards for Integrated
Justice, eNotarization, eContracts, Electronic Court Filing, Legislative
Documents, and Transcripts. Although the OASIS intellectual property
policy allows both Royalty-Free (RF) and Reasonable and
Non-Discriminatory (RAND) licensing, all LegalXML technical committees
have decided to provide their work to the public on an RF basis.

Global eXchange Services and SAP Sponsor Cover Pages

GXS and SAP have become the newest sponsors of Cover Pages, the public
resource provided by OASIS and its members to document and encourage the
use of open standards for digital information exchange. Cover Pages is
widely regarded as the most comprehensive reference collection on XML
and related standards, and sponsorship from GXS and SAP helps to ensure
that this valuable information remains freely available to the
community. Jeffery Eck of GXS and Sinisa Zimek of SAP join the Cover
Pages Advisory Group, which provides critical review and recommendations
on Cover Pages coverage of important industry issues.

Cover Pages http://xml.coverpages.org/ averages thousands of page hits
per day, and its weekly e-newsletter is received by hundreds of opt-in
subscribers. For information on sponsoring Cover Pages, contact
carol.geyer@oasis-open.org.
