OASIS News 16 September 2005 Welcome to OASIS News, a weekly update of announcements, accomplishments, and activities for the international standards consortium. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Consortium Issues Call for Participation in New OASIS Web Services Quality Model TC This week, the formation of the OASIS Web Services Quality Model TC was announced. The objective of the committee will be to specify an overall model of Web services quality that will include three components: quality factors; associate roles; and activities. This work should be of interest to anyone involved with Web Services or SOA. The inaugural TC meeting will be a teleconference on 12 Oct. http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/members/200509/msg00007.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------ OpenDocument and DITA to Be Focus of Special Event OpenDocument and Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) will be showcased at a special add-on event following the OASIS Adoption Forum. DITA builds content reuse into the authoring process for document creation and management. OpenDocument provides a royalty-free, XML-based file format that covers features required by text, spreadsheets, charts, and graphical documents. The event will take place 18 Oct and is sponsored by Sun Microsystems and IBM. Attendees of the OASIS Adoption Forum may participate in the event at no additional cost. http://www.oasis-open.org/events/adoption_forum_2005/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Semantion Contributes Spec to OASIS ebSOA TC Consortium member, Semantion, has contributed Federal Enterprise Reference Architecture (FERA)-based documents to the OASIS Electronic Business Service Oriented Architecture (ebSOA) TC. The specification includes Run-time SOA v0.1 and SOA Information Model v0.1. SOA Collaboration Semantics v0.1 will be added to the package soon. The document package will address SOA semantic integration issues. http://xml.coverpages.org/newsletter20050910.html#ebsoa ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Companies Demonstrate Interoperability of WSDM OASIS Standard at Enterprise Management World On Wednesday, 14 Sept, DataPower, IBM, HP, Hitachi, and TIBCO joined together to demonstrate interoperability of the Web Services Distributed Management (WSDM) OASIS Standard at the Enterprise Management World conference in Bethesda, Maryland. More than 40 people attended the InterOp, which employed a weather station scenario to demonstrate how WSDM allows management applications to be built using Web services, permitting resources to be controlled by many managers through a single interface. http://www.oasis-open.org/news/oasis_news_09_14_05.php ------------------------------------------------------------------------ OASIS Seeks to Expand Staff The Consortium is currently looking for candidates to fill three staff positions: Web Developer Qualified candidates will possess a strong background in commercial web development and systems administration. Technical skills should include proficiency in Perl and Shell scripting languages, knowledge of XML parsing and transformations, and ability to create software using LAMP, Python, and Zope. The position is based in Billerica, MA, USA; however candidates may work remotely. Manager of Asian-Pacific Business Development Experience working with international e-Business standards is a requirement, as is background in technical recruiting and/or business development activities. Candidates should be fluent in Mandarin and English. The target location for this position is Singapore with the possibility of working remotely. Manager of European Business Development Candidates will have prior experience with technical sales and business development activities and have worked with international e-Business standards. Due to the nature of this position, fluency in English and at least one other European language is required. This is a virtual position, however the individual must be based in Europe.
