Subject: RE: [obix-xml] outOfService
I like the comment about no double negatives, but how about no negatives? Controls Guys tend to think "what's in alarm". My perception (and quick poll) of enterprise guys is more in the line of "What can I get to?" I'm thinking: "inService=true" Or "available=true" Or "onLine=true" This somehow feels more to me like "All Systems Go" Of course, the counter-arguments is that true is interesting therefore more intuitive "payAttention=true" and that this is more similar to the isInAlarm=true that drives many of today's control UIs. tc -----Original Message----- From: ahansen@tridium.com [mailto:ahansen@tridium.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 30, 2004 9:22 AM To: obix-xml@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: [obix-xml] outOfService Brian and I would like to change the "outOfService" status flag to "disabled". outOfService is BACnet terminology and we believe it is less meaningful than disabled to enterprise developers. At Tridium we made this change in our product because we didn't like the double negative to indicate components were enabled (outOfService=false). If you care, speak up at the next meeting.
