In the [standard]([https://docs.oasis-open.org/odata/odata/v4.01/odata-v4.01-part1-protocol.html#sec_UpdateanEntity)] it says:

Entity id and entity type cannot be changed when updating an entity.

However, updating an entity type doesn't necessarily fundamentally change the entity itself (for example, an employee can become a manager and back). Updating the entity type should be allowed when updating an entity. There are actually provisions for this in other parts of the standard that talk about which properties are retained when patching an instance with a new type.Â
