Subject: ODF 1.x - Registered MIME Types
This comment applies to the following documents: OpenDocument-v1.2-draft7-5.odt 2008-07-18 draft, Appendix C OpenDocument-v1.1-cs1.odt, Appendix C OpenDocument-v1.0ed2-cs1.odt as ISO/IEC 26300-2006(E), Appendix C At least as far back as 2006-05-31, all of the MIME types that are proposed to be registered in these documents have been registered. With regard to these registrations, application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text-master, identifies extension otm (*NOT* odm) as a typical file name extension. See http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text-master In addition, the registration entries for all of the MIME types refer to ODF 1.0 and cite the document at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/12572/OpenDocument-v1.0-os.pdf Finally, the section on security considerations makes explicit reference to section 17.3 on encryption (not present there in ODF 1.2). These observations are relevant to any proposed clean-up of Appendix C for ODF 1.2. There is also a slight disconnect in regard to the office:mimetype attribute of the <office:document> root element, and the definition in 18.578 of v1.2-draft7-5 could stand some clarification. In this case the same MIME Types as the OpenDocument package MIME types are used only to signify the document structure and intended usage, rather than a content type (which if needed, is text/xml). However, the MIME Type registrations are asserted to apply to binary data. - Dennis Dennis E.
