Subject: Question on process and Chapter 10 proposed eratta

Greetings!

Have attached as an HTML file a list of proposed eratta for Chapter 10
of the specification.

Had a short day today because I had to take my daughter back to college
(Spring vacation).

Did think of one process question, mainly for Michael and Daniel, but of
interest to the group:

Is there a form of proposed eratta submission that would be better than
another?

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Patrick

OO Eratta, Chapter 10 Chart Content

General comments:

1. Note that we seem to have lost the style:

"The attributes that you can associate with the ***** element are:"

Realize that would bulk up the specification some but it did provide a convenient place for cross references (so explanations would not have to be repeated) as well as enumerating all of the attributes of a given element.

Specific eratta

  1. Page 308
    10.2 Chart

    First paragraph, first sentence reads:

    "The chart element represents an entire chart, including titles, a
    legend, and the graphical object that visualizes the underlying data
    called the plot area."

    To be consistent with other references to elements, "chart element"
    should read: "<chart:chart> element" with appropriate styling.

  2. Page 309
    Class

    First paragraph, first sentence reads:

    "The class attribute specifies the chart type."

    To be consistent with other references to attributes, "class attribute"
    should read: "chart:class attribute" with appropriate styling.

  3. Page 311
    Column and Row Mapping

    First paragraph, first sentence reads:

    "The chart:column-mapping and chart:row-mapping attributes contain if
    provided a list of indexes of series."

    Suggest (note added commas):

    "The chart:column-mapping and chart:row-mapping attributes contain, if
    provided, a list of indexes of series."

  4. Page: 311
    Style Name

    First sentence reads:

    "The chart:style-name attributes references a chart style."

    "attributes" -> "attribute"

  5. Page 312
    10.3.1

    First paragraph, first sentence reads:

    "The title element represents a main title object in a chart
    document."

    To be consistent with other references to elements, "title element"
    should read: "<chart:title> element" with appropriate styling.

  6. Page 312
    Position and Size

    Sentence reads:

    "The common positioning attributes for drawing objects can be used on
    title elements."

    To be consistent with other references to elements, "title elements"
    should read: "<chart:title> elements" with appropriate styling.

  7. Page 312
    Style Name

    First paragraph, first sentence now reads:

    "For further styling information, you can assign a style name to the
    title element."

    "title element" -> "<chart:title> element"

    "assign a style name to" -> "set the chart:style-name attribute for"

    Suggest:

    "For further styling information, you can set the chart:style-name attribute for the
    <chart:title> element."

  8. Page 313
    Style Name

    First paragraph, last sentence reads:

    "You can also apply two alignment properties, Orientation and Rotation
    Angle, see section ."

    If we are still talking about the "title text itself," then Text
    Rotation is in section 14.4. Assuming that is correct, ...

    Suggest: strike.

  9. Page 313
    10.3.2 Subtitle

    First paragraph, first sentence reads:

    "The subtitle element represents a subtitle which can be used for
    additional title information in a chart."

    To be consistent with other references to elements, "subtitle element"
    should read: "<chart:subtitle> element" with appropriate styling.

  10. Page 313
    10.3.2 Subtitle

    Second paragraph reads:

    "The structure of the subtitle element is the same as that of the
    title element. The attributes you can use on the subtitle element are
    the same as those you can use on the title element. See section 10.3.1
    for more information."

    "subtitle element" -> "<chart:subtitle> element" (2 times)

    "title element" -> "<chart:title> element" (2 times)

  11. Page 313
    10.3.3 Footer

    First paragraph reads:

    "The footer element represents a footer below the chart's plot area."

    "footer element" -> "<chart:footer> element"

  12. Page 313
    10.3.3 Footer

    Second paragraph reads:

    "The structure of the subtitle element is the same as that of the
    title element. The attributes you can use on the subtitle element are
    the same as those you can use on the title element. See section 10.3.1
    for more information."

    Looks like a duplicate of the second paragraph in 10.3.2. Note it
    mentions "subtitle element" and not "footer."

    Suggest strike

  13. Page 313
    10.4 Legend

    First paragraph, first sentence reads:

    "The legend element determines whether or not a legend is displayed in
    the chart."

    "legend element" -> "<chart:legend> element"

  14. Page 315
    Legend Styling

    First paragraph, first sentence reads:

    "Additional styling information for the chart legend can be referenced
    through the style name attribute."

    "style name attribute." -> "chart:style-name attribute." (with
    appropriate styling)

  15. Page 315
    Plot Area

    First paragraph, first sentence reads:

    "The plot area element is a container for the graphics objects that
    represent chart data."

    "The plot area element" -> "<chart:plot-area> element"

  16. Page 316
    Plot Area Style

    First paragraph, first sentence reads:

    "The style that you apply to the plot area element is used for all
    data elements contained inside the plot area, unless you specify extra
    styles in one of those sub elements."

    "The style that you apply to" -> "The chart:style-name attribute that you
    set for"

    "the plot area element" -> "<chart:plot-area> element"

  17. Page 317
    10.5.1 3D Plot Area

    First paragraph, second and fifth sentences read:

    "All 3D attributes that can be applied to the element
    cane be applied to the plot area element, including the dr3d:transform
    attribute....In addition to this, the plot area may contain a
     element as specified in section 9.4.2."

    cane -> can

    "plot area element" -> "<chart:plot-area> element"

    "the plot area" -> "<chart:plot-area> element"

  18. Page 317
    10.6 Wall

    First pargraph reads:

    "The wall element can be contained in the plot area element. For
    two-dimensional charts, the wall element spans the entire plot
    area. For three-dimensional charts, the wall element usually consists
    of two perpendicular rectangles."

    "wall element" -> "<chart:wall>" (3 times)

    "plot area" -> "<chart:plot-area>" (1 time)

  19. Page 317
    Position and Size

    Paragraph reads:

    "You can use the width attribute to set the width of a wall for
    three-dimensional charts."

    "width attribute" -> "svg:width attribute"

  20. Page 317
    Style

    First sentence reads:

    "The wall element may have a chart style applied."

    "wall element" -> "<chart:wall> element"

  21. Page 317
    First sentence reads:

    "The wall element may have a chart style applied."

    Aside from the correction noted at #20, shouldn't "chart style
    applied" read: "chart:style-name attribute"?

    Corrected in full as:

    "The <chart:wall> element may have a chart:style-name attribute."

    10.7 Floor

    Paragraph reads:

    "The floor element can be contained in the plot area element. For
    three-dimensional charts, the floor element is present in addition to
    the wall element."

    "floor element" -> "<chart:floor> element" (2 times)

    "plot area element" -> "<chart:plot-area> element>" (1 time)

    "wall element" -> "<chart:wall> element" (1 time)

  23. Page 318
    Size

    Last sentence reads:

    "You can use the width attribute to set the width of the floor."

    "width attribute" -> "svg:width attribute"

  24. Page 318

    First sentence reads:
