In general I agree, but the problem that we face is that the only way to 
do so would be define an regular expression that restricts the string 
values. This regular expression would be rather complex and hard to 
read. We further face the problem that we would duplicate a definition 
that is actually part of the SVG specification, from which we take that 
datatype. SVG actually defines it also as string.

We had already some discussions about this, since it is an issue that 
effects other attribute values, too. Finding a solution for that is 
still on our agenda. It is the
