Subject: Re: [office] Proposal discussion: Add multiple cell ranges support to DataPilot

Dear TC members,
Per our discussion today, I have updated my proposal
with changes highlighted with bold text, http://wiki.oasis-open.org/office/Add_multiple_cell_ranges_support_to_Data_Pilot.
As to the definition of "table:source-cell-ranges",
I'm reusing the existing "cellRangeAddressList". It is consistent
with other existing cell ranges, such as "table:print-ranges".
Your comments are welcome.
Best Regards,
Helen Yue

Hi Kohei,
I think your suggestion makes sense. I have added the corresponding description
into the backwards compatibility section of my proposal, http://wiki.oasis-open.org/office/Add_multiple_cell_ranges_support_to_Data_Pilot.
Thanks.
Best Regards,
Helen Yue

I just wanted to say that the proposal looks reasonable to me.
One thing I would consider changing is, for backward compatibility with
pre-1.2 processors, we should definitely keep the
table:source-cell-range attribute even if the table:source-cell-ranges
attribute is preferred for 1.2 and above.
So for instance, if only one cell range is specified, the 1.2 processor
should put that range in both table:source-cell-range and
table:source-cell-ranges attributes. And if there are multiple cell
ranges specified, put the range that is considered most representative
(or simply just the first range of the range set) to the
table:source-cell-range so that the older processors can at least load
something.
Also, is there any constraints on the geometry of the cell ranges? For
example, do all the cell ranges have to have the same width, or can the
widths of ranges be different? Also, when the field names are given
in
the first row of each cell range, do they have to match for all the cell
ranges? I'm just trying to picture how those multiple ranges are
merged
into one data set.
Thanks, and sorry about the last reply.
Kohei
